Mammila claims Chippa job is most difficult

Chippa United coach Morgan Mammila says his job is the most difficult in the Premier Soccer League (PSL) ahead of the start of the new season.

The Chilli Boys have re-appointed Mammila yet again having sacked him five months ago due to a string of poor results. Mammila argues his background in comparison to his DStv Premiership counterparts puts him under immediate pressure.

"I'm the man with the hottest seat for two reasons. One; I'm a coach who's never played football from nowhere. Secondly, I'm the only coach coaching the only professional team in the province", he told the media.

The former Baroka FC chief executive and Moroka Swallows technical advisor – for a brief spell – sees himself as an inspiration.

"For me, the biggest task is to show 'black child' out there that even if you haven't played professionally, opportunities like these are for all of us. So I'm not here to let them down. I'm here to make it possible for them and give them hope."

Mammila adds his mandate from chairman Siviwe ‘Chippa’ Mpengesi is to protect their elite league franchise.

"The target for this season is not a dream. The chairman wants his status, I want to compete just like [Mamelodi] Sundonws, [Orlando] Pirates, Supersport [United] and others.

"There's top eight there up for grabs, I've tasted it with Swallows. All of you were saying Swallows were gonna get relegated last season, all of you were saying that, and they are playing MTN8 now".

Chippa’s opening league game is away to Kaizer Chiefs in Durban on Sunday, 6 August.
