The TD’s position became vacant at the end of March this year when Walter Steenbok, who had turned around the SAFA technical department, resigned from the post, citing a lack of support and poor pay as part of his reasons for departure.
Maluleka says in the next two weeks, there will be progress in this search.
"Yeah, today it was not that much from our technical committee, as you know that we are waiting for the interview of one of the major positions in the technical committee of the TD,” Maluleka said.
“We are busy with the shortlisting. In two weeks time we'll be interviewing where we'll then recommend the name to the executive committee of SAFA to approve such name."
In the job advertisement for the TD position, SAFA listed the minimum requirements for potential candidates to be a CAF A license holder, hold a university degree, or possess a three-year diploma.
Minimum of three years of experience working with youth and at the highest level. The candidate must also have a minimum of three years of experience as a coach, technical director, or sports manager.
Maluleka explains their ideal candidate for this position.
"Yes, we have the application but the panel have to sit down and finalise those names and make sure that the shortlisted candidate knows the date as well when are they going to be invited for presentation,” he added.
“Of course as you know that it's for a technical person we need somebody who has intense knowledge on technical matters. That particular person academically must be a sound one.
“Also international experience in terms of understanding the technical matters of the organisation. So, the person as you know that he would also be coordinating our programmes through FIFA projects and that particular person must be wary of what is happening in FIFA as well. So, it should be a person that understands well what is happening in that field."
