Modise hits out at SAFA leadership

Banyana Banyana legend Portia Modise believes a change in administration at the South African Football Association (SAFA) is crucial for the next generations to flourish.

The outspoken former women's national team captain recently launched her book 'Portia Modise WIth Love', and subsequently voiced her disappointment with the treatment of former and current players by the leadership within SAFA.

"People running that space in SAFA House need to leave that space! Politicians need to give us that space, footballers need to come back and run that space," said Modise.

"Because we'll know the sacrifices that these athletes [make] to achieve what they achieve. We'll celebrate them because I was once an athlete [and] I know what it takes to win something. We'll never miss [an opportunity] to celebrate them.

"Those old folks that are there [in SAFA], they're missing [opportunities] to celebrate us because they were never athletes. So, I'm just saying [change] will do good for the next generation."

SAFA will hold its national elections scheduled for June, when current president Danny Jordaan is looking to secure a third successive term in office.
