Mikel Arteta praises Arsenal mindset after hard-fought win at Fulham

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta praised his side's growing maturity and improved mentality after a 1-0 victory over Fulham on Saturday restored the Gunners' lead at the top of the Premier League table.

Leandro Trossard's goal from a 58th-minute corner proved decisive in a match that saw Arsenal struggle to break down a resolute Fulham side. The result marked the Gunners' fifth consecutive win in all competitions and extended their perfect record in fixtures where they dropped points last season.

"The recent history wasn't in our favour and we wanted to change that," Arteta said post-match. "Like we did against Newcastle and West Ham at home, this was another step towards having that mindset and that ability to win these kinds of matches."

Arteta's side failed to win at Craven Cottage in their previous two visits, but Saturday's victory ensured they claimed maximum points from this season's fixtures against Fulham, Newcastle, and West Ham-a significant improvement after managing just one point across those same games last year.

"It's a really tough place to come," the Spanish mentor noted. "A really well-organised team, a good manager, and when the context is 0-0 and the game goes on, it becomes harder. But we showed a lot of maturity."

Trossard's finish came from Arsenal's seventh goal from a corner this season, and their 37th in the Premier League from such situations since the start of 2023-24 - more than any other team by a margin of 16 goals.

"We kept knocking on the door in various ways, and in the end we found a way with the set-piece to do it," Arteta said. "But we deserved it in the end."
