Miguel Cardoso questions unjust Mamelodi Sundowns expectations

Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso has questioned why his team is being judged harshly and treated differently from other teams when they don’t win.

This followed Sundowns’ goalless draw against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium last night, which took them to third spot on the table with eight points from four matches.

Responding to a barrage of questions about his team's performance, Cardoso was defensive when it was noted by journalists that Sundowns were not at their usual best.

"We drew twice with Orlando Pirates and we've drawn with Kaizer Chiefs, who was at the first position in the table – I don't see us drawing games against teams from third or second division," argued the Portuguese mentor.

"What do you expect? These kinds of games is always to arrive here and give them five? Respect the opponents, because you are not respecting [them].

"To me, you are respecting me, but you are [surely] not respecting the [opposition] teams, you're making them [out to be] much worse than they are, and I think you're not respecting the teams that we played against, who are very big teams.

"Last year Orlando Pirates made the CAF Champions League semi-finals, I would like you to remember – we played twice against them and didn't lose, and of course we wanted to win, and twice we were winning, even away, and I don't think we were worse than Pirates.

"And, with all due respect, we also weren't worse here [at FNB Stadium], against a team that reinforced a lot, that keeps the work, that has 60 000 people of their fans in the stadium, and we also had our moments to control the match.

"Please, why am I obliged to win every match and be charged by that, and the other people can draw, and we are not charged the same way?"
