Michael Carrick: Variety of opinions among Man Utd's staff is 'ideal'

Michael Carrick has credited his backroom staff as central to his impressive start as manager of Manchester United, guiding the club through an early surge of positive results.

Appointed amid scrutiny and handed an unforgiving opening schedule against Manchester City and Arsenal, Carrick responded in emphatic fashion. United won both fixtures convincingly, setting the tone for what has since developed into a five-game unbeaten run.

Carrick has described the environment around the squad as an "ideal scenario" - a staff structure he both constructed and inherited, built around varied personalities and open dialogue.

Frank discussions are encouraged behind the scenes, with the manager insisting that honest debate ultimately benefits the team's progression.

"Everyone brings something different, which is kind of the ideal scenario, really. They have different personalities, experiences, coming from different angles, but work together," said Carrick.

"That's the ingredient, that balance you get. It's great to have different opinions, challenge each other, and throw different ideas. I'm absolutely delighted. Couldn't have asked for more of the staff."

The transformation has also been felt within the dressing room. Compared to the atmosphere during the tenure of Ruben Amorim, there is said to be renewed clarity and cohesion among the squad.

With results improving and performances stabilising, qualification for the UEFA Champions League has shifted from distant ambition to firm expectation.
