Michael Carrick focused on present as Man Utd surge fuels long-term debate

Appointed in January following the turbulent departure of Ruben Amorim, Carrick was tasked with stabilising the season. Just over 100 days later, he has done far more than that. "I enjoy being here, I love being here," he said ahead of the upcoming clash with Brentford. "It's a real privilege to be in this position, and I'm thriving with the responsibility. We've had some good results, but there's still layers we want to reach."

While speculation continues to swirl around who will lead United next season, the 44-year-old insists he is not chasing answers or imposing timelines on the club's decision-making process.

"It's not something I'm really pushing for in terms of deadlines," he explained. "It'll become clear when it becomes clear. Right now, my job is to help the team and keep improving-and that's genuinely all I'm focused on."

Carrick's appointment came ahead of his former teammate and close friend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who previously held the role on a permanent basis after an interim spell of his own. The parallels between the two situations have sparked debate, but Carrick is quick to dismiss comparisons.

"I've got the utmost respect for Ole-we worked closely and achieved a lot together," he said. "But it's a different team, a different time. Comparisons don't really have any impact on what we're doing now."

As United continue their push toward a top-four finish, Carrick's calm and measured approach has become a defining feature of his tenure. With key players like Harry Maguire returning from suspension and others nearing fitness, momentum appears to be building at a crucial stage of the campaign.
