Massimiliano Allegri drives AC Milan’s unbeaten charge back to top of Serie A

AC Milan's resurgence under Massimiliano Allegri has prompted growing belief that Serie A may be entering a new "Super Max" phase, with the Rossoneri unbeaten against the league's biggest sides heading into December.

Their tight 1-0 victory over Lazio on Saturday summed up Allegri's trademark style: controlled, disciplined and decided in key moments. Allegri said his players "showed maturity when the game became messy", highlighting how Milan have learned to manage pressure.

Milan have conceded only one goal against Juventus, Inter, Lazio and Roma this season, keeping clean sheets in all four matches. Mike Maignan's penalty saves have been crucial, and Allegri insisted the Frenchman stayed only because he "felt important to our project" despite interest from Chelsea.

Luka Modric has added calm authority in midfield, while Alexis Saelemaekers, who could have left after a strong loan at Roma, has become a key contributor. Allegri said he "always believed Alexis could give balance and intensity".

Switching to a back three has revived Strahinja Pavlovic and restored Fikayo Tomori's best form after his near move to Tottenham. Pavlovic has stepped forward with confidence, creating from deeper areas.

The attack remains inconsistent, but Rafael Leao has returned from injury with six goal contributions in around 600 minutes, thriving as a counter-attacking threat. Christian Pulisic continues to deliver decisive moments as he has for two seasons.

This progress is built on structure rather than luck. Milan know when to slow games, when to strike and how to manage phases with composure. Allegri has avoided any complaints about signings, saying the players "deserve credit for adapting quickly".

If Milan recruit wisely, the Allegri era in Serie A could once again hit full stride.

Next up for AC Milan is a Coppa Italia, round of 16, clash at Lazio on Thursday.
