The former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund boss, Jurgen Klopp, was recently put forward by presidential hopeful Enrique Riquelme as the ideal figure to lead the club's next sporting project. The suggestion quickly gained attention across Spanish and German football circles.
However, that excitement has now been cooled by a firm response from Klopp's camp.
His agent, Marc Kosicke, made the position clear when reacting to the speculation, telling journalist Florian Plettenberg: "It's annoying! Jurgen Klopp is happy in his role at Red Bull and has no ambitions to work as a manager at a club."
The message leaves little room for interpretation. Klopp, who stepped away from Liverpool at the end of last season, is currently working within the Red Bull football structure and is understood to be settled in that role.
Kosicke's comments also suggest that a return to the dugout is not on the horizon, regardless of the club involved.
According to Plettenberg's reporting, a move to Real Madrid is not considered realistic at this stage. He also indicated that if Klopp were ever to return to coaching, the German national team would be a more likely destination than another club job.
Riquelme's campaign had already acknowledged the difficulty of the idea before the agent's response. The candidate admitted Klopp had repeatedly expressed a desire to stay away from management in the short term.
"We know that Jurgen Klopp has publicly stated that he has no intention of returning to management in the short term and that he has turned down numerous offers," Riquelme's statement said. "That is precisely why we believe Real Madrid's challenge is different. Because there are many great clubs, but there is only one Real Madrid."
