Manchester United's Harry Maguire handed suspended jail sentence

The England international was facing allegations of non-serious assault, resisting arrest and attempted bribery of police officials and was found guilty of all three offences.

However, the former Leicester City star's legal team is set to appeal the guilty verdict despite the recent conviction.

Maguire was initially given a 21-month suspended sentence and ten days in prison in 2020 after being found guilty of repeated bodily harm, attempted bribery, violence against public employees and insult.

That sentence was followed by an appeal by his legal team, which, by Greek law, nullified his conviction and meant that a retrial would follow.

The retrial was postponed on four previous occasions between 2023 and 2025 before it's resumption on Wednesday in Syros.

Meanwhile, Maguire is set to be in the Red Devil's squad to face Newcastle United in their Premier League clash at St James' Park after being substituted in the win against Crystal Palace on the weekend due to illness.
