Manchester City's Phil Foden reveals inspiration for brace against Leeds United

Manchester City winger Phil Foden claimed he wanted to make up for missed chances in previous games after his brace in the 3-2 thriller against Leeds United on Saturday.

The England international starred at the Etihad Stadium with two goals at the very beginning and a dramatic winner the end of the match to help City move into second spot on the Premier League table.

"It's up there as one of the wildest games," Foden told his club website after the match.

We had full control in the first half. They changed their system in the second half, and we couldn't get going."

The 25-year-old had last scored a league goal in the Manchester derby victory in September despite finding the net in the Carabao Cup and the UEFA Champions League thereafter.

"I was so hungry today to play and prove to myself I could still score goals," added Foden.

"I missed a few chances against Newcastle (United) and wanted to put it right. The belief and togetherness came through at the end. Hopefully that's the case today that we can kick on from here. But you never know what to expect.

"The title race is never straightforward. There's always ups and downs and periods where you can't seem to get going and we've had that."

The defeat leaves the Lily Whites struggling in 18th spot on the table.
