Man Utd struggle to offload Tyrell Malacia along with numerous other players

Tyrell Malacia has become the face of Manchester United's ongoing difficulties in shifting unwanted players, a problem that is severely hampering the club's rebuild.

Signed three years ago by Erik ten Hag, Malacia's time at Old Trafford has been wrecked by injuries. A meniscus tear and complications from failed surgery kept him out for 18 months, limiting him to just three league appearances after his debut season.

Loaned to PSV Eindhoven last year, he failed to impress sufficiently, and the Dutch side declined to trigger their 8.5-million-pound purchase option.

Now surplus to requirements, Malacia remains on the market - but no buyers have emerged, and a cut-price deal may be the only solution.

Malacia is just one of several high-wage players Ruben Amorim is keen to move on as he reshapes the squad. The new manager, who took over following a turbulent campaign, is reportedly uninterested in reintegrating many of the current squad.

Marcus Rashford, Antony, and Jadon Sancho are also expected to leave, having been marginalised under Amorim. Sancho has returned from a loan spell, while Rashford and Antony may require financial assistance from United to facilitate exits due to their sizeable wages.

While the club has managed to bring in Matheus Cunha in an effort to refresh the forward line, the broader rebuilding efforts are being slowed by the logjam of players they cannot sell.
