In a contest packed with tension, momentum swings and moments of brilliance, it was Erling Haaland who once again proved decisive, striking midway through the second half to tilt the balance in City's favour and heap pressure on the long-time leaders.
City's intent was clear from the outset, but it was Rayan Cherki who provided the spark. The Frenchman produced a moment of individual magic, weaving past defenders with dazzling footwork before calmly slotting home to give the hosts an early lead.
Yet the advantage lasted barely two minutes. A lapse in concentration from goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma handed Arsenal an immediate route back into the contest, his attempted clearance ricocheting off Kai Havertz and into the net after the German had relentlessly closed him down.
The frantic tempo continued into the second half as both sides traded chances. Haaland struck the woodwork, while Arsenal responded through Eberechi Eze and Havertz, who were both denied in key moments as the visitors threatened to seize control.
Instead, City delivered the decisive blow. A sweeping move carved open Arsenal's defence, and Haaland reacted instinctively inside the box to fire home from close range, restoring the hosts' lead and ultimately settling the encounter.
Arsenal pushed desperately for a second equaliser, with Gabriel Magalhaes heading against the post and Havertz missing a late opportunity, but City held firm amid rising tension, with tempers flaring in the closing stages.
The victory not only extends City's formidable momentum but also shifts the psychological edge in the title race. Having trailed for much of the campaign, Pep Guardiola's side now sit firmly on Arsenal's shoulder, with a game in hand offering the chance to go top.
For Arsenal, chasing a first league crown since 2004, the defeat marks a significant setback and a second consecutive loss, raising fresh doubts at a critical stage of the season.
With just a handful of matches remaining, the balance of power appears to be tilting. City, relentless as ever, are gathering pace at precisely the right moment - and the title race, once seemingly under Arsenal's control, is now finely poised.
