Mads Bidstrup completes Lyon transfer from Red Bull Salzburg

Mads Bidstrup has completed a move to Olympique Lyonnais after ending a successful three-year spell with Red Bull Salzburg.

The 25-year-old Danish midfielder signed a five-year contract with the French club in a deal reported by L'Equipe to be worth 10 million euros.

Bidstrup arrived at Salzburg from Premier League side Brentford in the summer of 2023 and quickly became one of the club's most reliable performers. His energetic displays, determination and leadership qualities helped him establish himself as a regular in midfield, while his commitment on the pitch made him a firm favourite with the supporters.

During his time in Austria, Bidstrup made 116 appearances in all competitions, scoring four goals and providing five assists. His consistency played an important role in Salzburg's midfield as the club continued to compete at the top level domestically and in European competition.

The move to Lyon now gives the former Denmark Under-21 international the opportunity to test himself in Ligue 1 with one of France's biggest clubs.

Lyon enjoyed a strong campaign last season, finishing fourth in the French top flight to secure European football. They also reached the UEFA Europa League Round of 16 before being knocked out by Celta Vigo.

Bidstrup's arrival is expected to strengthen Lyon's midfield ahead of the new season. His work rate, ability to win possession and composure on the ball should add balance to the squad as the club looks to build on last season's progress.
