Liverpool reportedly want Manchester City's Kalvin Phillips as a Fabinho replacement

Liverpool could sign Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips as Fabinho's anticipated £40million transfer to Saudi Arabia nears completion.

The offer from Al-Ittihad was received by Liverpool on Friday, prompting them to grant Fabinho permission to undergo a medical examination.

The 29-year-old has not accompanied Jurgen Klopp's squad to their pre-season training camp in Germany and is expected to join the Saudi Pro League side.

In the interim, Liverpool have been searching for a replacement for the former Monaco player. According to Sky Sports, Phillips is among the players being considered by the Reds.

The report also mentions that Bayern Munich's Ryan Gravenberch and Fiorentina's Sofyan Amrabat are on their radar.

Phillips faced difficulties in securing playing time during his debut season at City, featuring in only 21 matches across all competitions as Pep Guardiola's team achieved a treble.

In fact, the 27-year-old started in only four games, with Rodri being preferred over him in the defensive midfield position.

While the former Leeds midfielder is eager to remain at the Etihad, he could be sold, with Liverpool, West Ham, and Newcastle being potential suitors.
