Kylian Mbappe's hamstring injury puts Clasico appearance for Real Madrid in doubt

Kylian Mbappe's hamstring injury puts Clasico appearance for Real Madrid in doubt

Kylian Mbappe has suffered a fresh setback in Real Madrid's La Liga run-in after the club confirmed he has injured his left hamstring, placing his availability for the upcoming Clasico against Barcelona in serious doubt.

The forward picked up the injury during Madrid's 1-1 draw with Real Betis on Friday, where he was forced off in the 82nd minute. Real Madrid confirmed on Monday that scans revealed a hamstring problem, although the club did not provide a fixed recovery timeline, saying instead that his return will depend on how the injury develops over the coming days.

Spanish reports suggest the issue is not expected to be long-term, but with the Clasico scheduled for May 10 at Camp Nou, time is now tight for the France international to recover fully.

Mbappe has already had interruptions to his season due to a knee problem earlier in the campaign, and this latest setback adds further concern for both club and country, with the 2026 World Cup approaching in June.

Madrid head into a crucial final stretch of the La Liga season trailing Barcelona by 11 points with five matches remaining. Their schedule leaves little room for error, beginning with an away trip to Espanyol on May 3, followed by the high-stakes meeting with Barcelona a week later.

The campaign then closes with a demanding run of fixtures against Real Oviedo, Sevilla, and Athletic Club.

The next few days will be decisive in determining whether Madrid's key attacker can recover in time for one of the defining matches of their season.
