Kaizer Chiefs drop points at home against stubborn Marumo Gallants

Kaizer Chiefs lost ground in the race for second place in the DStv Premiership after drawing 1-1 with Marumo Gallants.

Their lacklustre performance against Marumo Gallants ended their five-match winning streak, as they had to settle for a draw at the FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Chiefs now sit in fourth place, two points behind Orlando Pirates and SuperSport United, who are also vying for the second spot to represent South Africa in the CAF Champions League next season.

While Pirates secured a 2-0 victory against Chippa United, SuperSport won against TS Galaxy.

Chiefs initially led the game thanks to Ashley Du Preez's opener in the sixth minute, but defender Edmilson Dove's mistake gifted Marumo's Ranga Chivaviro with an easy equaliser in the 36th minute.

Chiefs' passing and combinations in the final third were poor, leaving fans frustrated with their lack of penetration.

Marumo collected a valuable point, moving away from the bottom of the log on goal difference, while eight other teams, including Richards Bay, could still be drawn into the relegation battle.
