Kaizer Chiefs down Golden Arrows to continue unbeaten start to the season

Kaizer Chiefs defeated Golden Arrows 1-0 at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday to remain unbeaten in the 2025/26 season.

The match started brightly with both sides attempting to breach the opposition's defence, as midfielder Sibongiseni Mthethwa registered Amakhosi's first shot of the match in the eighth minute.

Chiefs made the first shot on target shortly after, with Ashley du Preez testing Arrows goalkeeper Xolani Ngcobo who dealt well with the threat.

The visitors then went close to scoring when a deflected cross from Thabiso Monyane wrong-footed Abafana Bes'thende's goalkeeper before being cleared off the line by Keanan Phillips.

Both teams shared possession for the rest of the half, with the home side coming closest to scoring after left-back Sabelo Sithole tested Brandon Petersen following a swift counter-attack.

The second half began with Chiefs applying the early pressure again before Arrows took the initiative, Sede Junior Dion pulling his effort wide before the Durban side rattled the upright in the 55th minute.

Exciting Amakhosi forward Glody Lilepo saw his long-range shot saved in the 66th minute as the Glamour Boys pushed to get the full three points in Durban.

But it was Portuguese striker Flavio Silva who sent Moses Mabhida into raptures three minutes later, scoring 11 minutes into his Kaizer Chiefs debut after having come on as a substitute alongside Mfundo Vilakazi and Gaston Sirino.

Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi then made some defensive changes to ensure the Soweto giants secured another three points and head into the international break in second spot on the 2025/26 Betway Premiership table.
