The loss was the Bavarians first in the Bundesliga this season, with the visitors coming back from behind to score twice in the second half and claim the three points.
"We have to accept that we lost today, said Kimmich to fcbayern.com.
"It wasn't undeserved. Augsburg didn't outplay us, but a win for us would have been just as undeserved. To a certain extent we lacked a bit of hunger, we weren't quite as fresh, and we didn't find a consistent rhythm over the full 90 minutes."
The result also marked the end of a 27-match unbeaten run in the league for Bayern and a six-match winning streak against Augsburg.
"Of course, we always want to win, especially at home, but how we react to this is what matters," added the Germany international.
"We'll be thinking about this defeat for a few days, especially why and how. We didn't create chance after chance; we simply didn't reach our top level. The important thing is that we respond to this and I'm looking forward to that!"
Bayern will turn their attention to their UEFA Champions League clash at PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday.
