Jobe Bellingham joins Borussia Dortmund, following in brother Jude's footsteps

Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Sunderland midfielder Jobe Bellingham, five years after bringing his older brother Jude to the Bundesliga.

The 19-year-old arrives in Germany on the back of an impressive season in the Championship, where he recorded four goals and three assists in 43 appearances and was named the league's Young Player of the Year. Bellingham played a key role in Sunderland's promotion to the Premier League, including their 2-1 victory over Sheffield United in the playoff final at Wembley.

After joining Sunderland from Birmingham City in 2023, Bellingham now follows a similar path to his brother Jude, who made a high-profile move to Dortmund in 2020 before transferring to Real Madrid three years later.

"I'm very happy to be a Borussia Dortmund player now and to fight for titles together with this great club," Bellingham said in his first interview. "I want to play my part in celebrating success with these great fans and will work hard every day with the team. I'm especially proud to wear the black and yellow jersey at the FIFA Club World Cup."

Dortmund secured a fourth-place finish in the Bundesliga last season after winning seven of their final eight league matches, clinching Champions League qualification. Bellingham is expected to be part of the squad traveling to the United States for the FIFA Club World Cup.

His inclusion in Dortmund's plans means he will miss the upcoming UEFA Under-21 European Championship. Bellingham was initially named in England's 23-man squad for the tournament, which kicks off this week.
