Speaking after arriving in Dallas, Texas, Laporta praised sporting director Deco for securing the deal and revealed that Barcelona had been tracking the forward for some time.
"We are very excited about Adeyemi. We've liked him for a while. He's dangerous and fast, and Deco handled the signing very well. The news came out when it was meant to," Laporta said.
Barcelona have reached a verbal agreement with Borussia Dortmund for the 24-year-old attacker, who is expected to sign a five-year contract with the Spanish champions.
The transfer is reported to be worth 22 million euros, with a further seven million euros in performance-related add-ons.
Adeyemi is understood to have chosen Barcelona after deciding against signing a new contract with Dortmund.
The German joined Dortmund from Red Bull Salzburg in 2022 and has established himself as one of the Bundesliga's quickest attacking players. Comfortable playing on either wing or through the middle, his pace and versatility are expected to give Barcelona coach Hansi Flick more options in attack as the club prepares for the new season.
