Jayden Adams honours fallen friend after Sundowns CAF glory

Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder Jayden Adams has dedicated his CAF Champions League winners’ medal to the late Oshwin Andries, his former teammate at Stellenbosch FC.

The Brazilians were crowned continental champions following a 2-1 aggregate win over AS FAR on Sunday night in Rabat, Morocco to end a decade long wait to become Africa’s best team for a second time

Adams revealed that memories of Andries, who tragically died from multiple stab wounds in 2023, came flooding back after the final whistle.

"I think the journey is – I can't describe the feeling, and I think this is just another big one for Oshwin, who passed away," said Adams.

"I'm just happy to add another trophy on his behalf to his family for Stellenbosch, Idis Valley, Cloetesville, Klapmuts, Kayamandi, everyone in Cape Town, South Africa – just thank you!"

Adams is now hoping to make the final 26-man squad as Bafana Bafana head to the FIFA World Cup next month. He says both Sundowns and Orlando Pirates winning trophies is good for the national team.

"I think this is a big boost for us going into the World Cup and into the future. I think, going into the World Cup, Sundowns have won a trophy and Pirates won a trophy, so I think that will boost the camp," he added.

"Everyone is winners and we can now get together and fight for the country."
