Jamie Vardy set for first Serie A start as Cremonese turn to experience

The 38-year-old English striker, who joined Cremonese on a free transfer after leaving Leicester City in the summer, is tipped to lead the line for the Grigiorossi as they look to end a four-game winless run.

Italian outlets La Gazzetta dello Sport and Sport Mediaset have reported that head coach Davide Nicola is ready to give the veteran forward his full debut after two substitute appearances.

Cremonese have made a solid start to the season, collecting nine points from their opening six matches, but have struggled in attack in recent weeks, scoring just twice in their last four outings. They were held to goalless draws by Verona and Parma, drew 1-1 with Como, and were beaten 4-1 by Inter Milan.

Vardy, a Premier League winner with Leicester City, scored 145 goals in 342 top-flight appearances in England. Known for his relentless work rate and finishing ability, he arrived in Lombardy with a clear goal of helping Cremonese avoid relegation in their second consecutive season in Italy's top division.

Cremonese sporting director Simone Giacchetta has said the club were drawn to Vardy's story and mentality. "The idea was to find players who could help us secure survival," Giacchetta explained. "The striker plays a crucial role because you need somebody who can score consistently.

"Vardy fascinated us all, for his ability, his Premier League record, and his incredible journey from factory worker to top-flight champion.

"The first contacts were positive," he added. "We found great humility and genuine interest in Cremonese. He knew exactly who we are and what kind of season to expect."

Kick-off against Udinese on Monday will have all eyes on whether Vardy can bring his trademark spark to Serie A for the first time from the start.
