'It's his hamstring' - Carrick delivers worrying Baleba injury update at Man Utd

Manchester United have been dealt an injury concern after Carlos Baleba suffered a hamstring problem during their dramatic 3-2 victory over Roma in the UEFA Champions League.

The Cameroon international was forced off early in the second half after pulling up in pain while bursting forward in an attacking move. Baleba looked distressed as he left the pitch, with United trailing 2-0 at the time.

The injury was particularly disappointing for the midfielder, who was making his first start alongside Kobbie Mainoo. The pair had shown plenty of energy and quality in midfield before Baleba was forced to withdraw.

United head coach Michael Carrick confirmed after the match that the 22-year-old had suffered a hamstring injury, although the full extent of the problem remains unclear.

"I haven't got any more news on Carlos at this stage but it's his hamstring," Carrick said. "We'll have to assess what that looks like but, initially, it doesn't look great."

Youri Tielemans replaced Baleba and made an immediate impression, producing an impressive performance as United fought back to secure a memorable victory at Old Trafford.

Carrick was delighted with the midfielder's contribution, praising his character and ability to step into the team when needed. "I thought Youri stepped into the game and showed what he's about, his personality and character stepping into the team," he said.

"He's a top human being, I love having him around for everything that he brings," Carrick added. Tielemans could now have an opportunity to push for a starting place against his former club.

United travel to face Aston Villa on Sunday, with Baleba's fitness a concern ahead of the Premier League encounter and Tielemans strengthening his case for a recall.
