Inaki Pena's loan to Elche helps Barcelona's player registration race

Barcelona have finalized a loan move for goalkeeper Inaki Pena to Elche for the 2025-26 season, with the 26-year-old extending his contract until 2029 to secure the deal.

This move frees up financial space for crucial squad registrations before La Liga's September 1 transfer deadline.

The agreement, driven by Elche's coach Eder Sarabia, positions Pena as a potential first-choice goalkeeper while helping Barcelona navigate Financial Fair Play rules. "This deal secures Inaki's future and supports our registration efforts," a Marca club source said.

The financial flexibility has enabled the registration of goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny, who will back up the squad for their upcoming match against Rayo Vallecano. "We're working hard to complete our squad," sporting director Deco said.

However, Barcelona still need to register defender Gerard Martin and winger Roony Bardghji. Martin's registration depends on midfielder Oriol Romeu's imminent departure, with Real Betis a likely destination.

"We're close to finalizing Oriol's move," a Marca source confirmed. Bardghji's registration may hinge on a potential loan for young right-back Hector Fort.

With time running out, Barcelona's strategic moves underscore their push to build a competitive squad for the La Liga season.
