'I love the players we have' - Arteta backs Arsenal squad after transfer window closes

Arsenal were linked with several high-profile attacking targets, including Morgan Rogers, Vinicius Junior and Julian Alvarez, but ultimately only added Greek winger Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge in that position.

The Gunners also lost Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli during the summer, leaving Arteta with fewer established options in attack.

However, the Arsenal manager has no intention of dwelling on the players they failed to sign.

"I love the players that we have, that is for sure," Arteta told reporters.

"It is what it is, this is what we have and we already have some very, very good players.

"Let's trust them and let's make sure we are right behind them, and I will do everything we can to help the incredible talent that we have."

Asked whether Arsenal had missed an opportunity by not signing another elite forward, Arteta refused to look back.

"I don't know. These are just opinions," he said.

"The window is closed and I prefer to look at all the incredible things that we have in the squad and not spend any more time on things that are not a part of us right now.

"That's it and that's my main responsibility."

Arteta had called for Arsenal to be "very ambitious, very fast and very smart" in the transfer market following their Champions League final defeat by Paris Saint-Germain in May.

The Spaniard believes the club delivered on that objective, despite not completing every deal they wanted.

"One hundred percent ticked," Arteta said.

"The outcome after can be different to what you expect, but the intention was certainly there which is what I value most."

Arsenal strengthened in other areas, bringing in Bruno Guimaraes and Ezri Konsa, while Piero Hincapie returned on a permanent deal after spending last season on loan.

Martinelli's departure brought an end to his seven-year Arsenal career. The Brazilian made almost 300 appearances for the club before completing a reported move to Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal for around 60 million pounds.

Arteta paid tribute to the forward after his exit.

"He goes with our gratitude," he said. "It's been a pleasure to work with him, to be part of this journey with him."

Arsenal now turn their attention to Chelsea, with both London clubs having won their opening two Premier League matches.

Arteta also provided an update on his squad ahead of Sunday's clash. Guimaraes and Cristhian Mosquera will have Saturday's training session to prove their fitness after picking up injuries in the 1-0 win at Aston Villa.

Jurrien Timber is also closing in on a return from a groin problem and could feature for the first time since the Champions League final.

"We'll decide tomorrow after training," Arteta said. "He's in really good condition at the moment."
