The two nations will be meeting for the 12th time in an AFCON tournament, with Egypt winning ten of the previous 11 matches whilst losing only once to the Elephants back in a 1990 group stage match. 

The Pharaohs, who lead the continent with seven titles, overcame a resilient Benin 3-1 after extra time in the Round of 16 after having topped Group B, whilst three-time AFCON winners Ivory Coast breezed past Burkina Faso 3-0 in their knockout clash after topping Group F.
