Haashim Domingo in Casablanca to sign two-year Raja deal

Free agent Haashim Domingo has arrived in Morocco to sign what SABC Sport understands is a two-year deal with Raja Casablanca.

The midfielders’ status changed late last month when talks with Mamelodi Sundowns over a new contract collapsed, with his agent Lance Davids making it clear the player wanted to stay but the two parties couldn’t agree on terms.

Downs’ negotiations were led by sporting director Flemming Berg.

The public broadcaster reported a week ago that North African giants had then moved swiftly to offer Domingo a new home in Casablanca and made him a priority signing as soon as they were made aware of his availability.

It’s understood Davids has accompanied the player to get the final leg of the talks over the line and conclude Domingo’s transfer.

Raja have also recently appointed a new coach in Josef Zinnbauer, who is a former Orlando Pirates mentor.

But the club showed interest in Domingo before the German tactician was announced as the new man in charge.

Domingo, who joined Sundowns when Bidvest Wits sold their Premier Soccer League topflight status in 2020, is no stranger to playing abroad – the 27-year-old had spells in Portugal and Norway before returning to SA.

He is now expected to put pen to paper to spend the next two seasons in the Botola Pro League, joining strikers Percy Tau and Fagrie Lakay in North Africa – the duo play for Al Ahly and Pyramids in Egypt respectively.
