Greece punish Germany as Klopp suffers another setback

Dimitrios Kourbelis struck in the second half as Greece secured their first-ever victory over Germany with a 1-0 win, leaving Jurgen Klopp without a victory from his opening two matches as German head coach.

Germany had been looking for a response after conceding a late goal in their draw with the Netherlands, but they made a slow start in Augsburg despite making five changes to their starting XI.

Debutant Bambase Conte had Germany's first opportunity inside three minutes, but his effort went narrowly wide.

The hosts gradually took control and Karim Adeyemi became their biggest attacking threat. He broke into the box after half an hour but fired over, before forcing a save with a powerful effort from the edge of the area.

Germany continued to dominate after the interval but could not find a way through.

That allowed Greece to become increasingly dangerous on the counter-attack. Christos Tzolis went close to creating an opening in the 73rd minute when he broke down the right, but his attempted ball across the area failed to find a teammate.

Greece struck moments later.

Tzolis drove forward down the left before his cutback deflected into the path of Kourbelis on the edge of the box. The midfielder's shot struck Joshua Kimmich and the deflection deceived Alexander Nubel.

Germany could not produce a response after falling behind, leaving Klopp with plenty to address before their home match against Serbia.

Greece, meanwhile, moved to the top of Group A2 after making it two wins from two and ended a run of four successive defeats against Germany.

Ramos takes advantage as Portugal end Norway's home run

Goncalo Ramos capitalised on a costly Orjan Nyland mistake as Portugal beat Norway 2-1 in Group A4, ending the hosts' 14-match unbeaten run on home soil.

Cristiano Ronaldo started on the bench at Oslo's Ullevaal Stadion, meaning there was no full match-up between him and Erling Haaland.

Portugal started quickly, with Joao Neves heading over on his 22nd birthday before Haaland was denied by Diogo Costa.

Joao Felix then put Portugal ahead in the 17th minute with a composed finish from the edge of the area. It was his ninth successive international goal that had either opened or completed the scoring in the respective matches.

Haaland came close to an equaliser when Costa parried the ball into his path, but Ruben Dias produced an outstanding block to deny his Manchester City team-mate.

Costa then kept out two Haaland headers as Norway continued to press, while Sander Berge headed wide.

Haaland eventually got his goal six minutes after half-time, finishing from close range to take his international tally to 65 goals in 57 appearances.

Norway's advantage lasted only three minutes.

Nyland passed the ball straight to Ramos, who lifted the ball into an empty net to restore Portugal's lead.

Ramos thought he had scored again five minutes later after beating Nyland to a through ball, but the effort was ruled out for offside.

Portugal held on through a frantic finish to move top of Group A4 and make it two wins from two under new head coach Jorge Jesus.

Norway remain on three points after two matches.

Meerdink double gives Xavi first Netherlands win

Mexx Meerdink scored twice as Xavi Hernandez claimed his first victory as Netherlands head coach, with the Dutch beating Serbia 2-1 in Belgrade.

The Netherlands had started the new era with a 1-1 comeback draw against Germany, but Serbia created the first major opening when Sergej Milinkovic-Savic fired wide following a quick counter-attack.

The Dutch then took control and were awarded a penalty after Aleksa Terzic was penalised for pushing Crysencio Summerville inside the box.

Meerdink converted from 12 yards despite Vanja Milinkovic-Savic going the right way, giving him his first senior international goal.

Denzel Dumfries was denied a second by the Serbia goalkeeper, while the Netherlands also lost Cody Gakpo to injury before half-time.

Serbia made two changes at the break, bringing on Dusan Tadic and Luka Jovic.

The move paid off almost immediately, with Jovic equalising within a minute of the restart after the Netherlands failed to clear their lines following saves from Bart Verbruggen.

The Netherlands responded as Ruben van Bommel hit the post before Tijjani Reijnders missed another good opportunity.

Meerdink restored the Dutch advantage when he controlled Guus Til's pass before producing a clinical left-footed finish beyond Milinkovic-Savic.

Serbia pushed for another equaliser and Jovic came close when his header from Tadic's corner went narrowly wide.

The Netherlands held on to remain unbeaten in the Nations League and extended their unbeaten run away from home in regulation time to 12 matches.

Denmark deepen Wales' troubles with Parken victory

Denmark defeated Wales 2-0 at Parken Stadium to extend their winning head-to-head run against the Welsh to four matches.

The Danes dominated the early stages and went close through Gustav Isaksen and Patrick Dorgu.

Isaksen then appeared to have put Denmark ahead after finishing Rasmus Hojlund's chipped pass, but VAR ruled the goal out for offside.

Mikkel Damsgaard went even closer when his effort from outside the area struck the post.

Wales improved before the break and nearly took the lead through Sorba Thomas and Connor Roberts, with Filip Jorgensen producing an important save to deny Roberts.

Neco Williams also tested Jorgensen early in the second half.

Denmark finally broke the deadlock five minutes later when Damsgaard's free-kick took a touch off Hojlund and then Ben Davies before finding the net.

Wales nearly responded immediately, but Thomas' cross evaded Kieffer Moore and drifted wide.

Denmark then doubled their lead with just under 25 minutes remaining. Wales failed to clear a free-kick and Isaksen struck the loose ball into the net via the underside of the crossbar.

Hojlund had another goal ruled out for offside late on, but Denmark had already done enough to secure their first win of this Nations League campaign.

The Danes have now gone nine home matches unbeaten, while Wales remain without a win in their last six outings and are bottom of their group after two matches.
