Grant Margeman: SuperSport must 'stay tight' against Orlando Pirates

SuperSport's Grant Margeman has stressed the importance of shutting the back door when they face Orlando Pirates in a DStv Premiership clash this afternoon.

SuperSport, currently holding the second position, will play host to the formidable Soweto giants, Orlando Pirates, who are trailing closely in third place.

The showdown is set to unfold at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, promising a clash of titans in the race for supremacy in the league.

Orlando Pirates enter the fixture in stellar form, boasting five victories and a draw in their last six outings. This impressive run positions them as formidable contenders in the upcoming clash, raising the stakes for both sides.

SuperSport, on the other hand, recently broke free from a winless streak in the league, securing a crucial 2-1 victory against Moroka Swallows.

"It was important to get that win against Swallows; we hadn't won in a [few] games," Margeman said.

"Going into the next game against Orlando Pirates, it's important that we keep that [winning] momentum going and make sure we get maximum points.

"We need to make sure we stay tight at the back. We've been conceding in almost every game in the past five games.

"So, it's important that we get a clean sheet and after that we must make sure we take our chances up front."

After 14 games, the two teams find themselves separated by a mere point, with SuperSport tallying 26 points and trailing seven points behind the league leaders, Mamelodi Sundowns. The latter, however, have three games in hand, adding to the intensity of the competition.
