Golden Arrows turn to Steve Komphela for immediate intervention

SABC Sport has learnt that former Moroka Swallows coach Steve Komphela is set to return to the touchline to try and alter Golden Arrows' current trajectory.

Komphela resigned from Swallows just over a month ago following a fallout with the club's management and how they were handling their internal affairs.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns senior coach has now touched down in Durban, where he is expected to take over the reins of the team amid an 11-match losing streak.

Current coach Mabhuti Khenyeza has endured an unflattering spell since taking over upon former co-coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi's departure in September last year, with Abafana Bes'thende currently in 12th position on the DStv Premiership standings.

It's understood, however, the former Kaizer Chiefs and Sundowns star will not be relieved of his duties in its entirety, but will instead be redeployed to an assistant role alongside Musa Bilankulu.

Komphela is also no stranger to Arrows, having served the club as head coach from December 2018 until October 2020, when he then left to join The Brazilians' loaded technical team.

An announcement is imminent, with the 56-year-old tactician likely to take charge of the Durban-based outfit's upcoming league fixture away to Polokwane City on Sunday.
