Golden Arrows coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi worried about their momentum

Lamontville Golden Arrows coach Vusumuzi Vilakazi was left concerned about the loss of momentum from his players as they were leading by 3-1 in the first half.

Abafana Besithende ended up winning by 3-2 against Polokwane City in the Dstv Premiership clash at Mpumalanga Stadium, Saturday night.

"I think our overall performance was in two phases because we started very well but also, I think it was a disadvantage for us to lead 3-1 because psychologically the players thought the game was over," Vilakazi said.

"At half time we tried to deal make them aware that things can still change. We scored three goals in the first half so it's still possible for them to score three goals.

Not the best second half but also I think our players fought until the end which is something that is very important to protect what we have.

I think the second goal killed our momentum because we were still looking at a team that could score another goal but when we conceded the second goal from them, from a set piece, poor organisation from our defenders led them to gain momentum and obviously they had nothing to lose."

Despite concerns over lack of concentration, Vilakazi saw improvement from his side. Even though, they were still licking their wounds following a 4-0 loss against league champions Mamelodi Sundowns in the previous game.

"Yeah, our plan was implemented especially in the first half but as I said, the disadvantage was leading with three goals in the first half.

That led our players to think that the game was over but the plan was there because for us to score three goals it is because of the analysis that we did on them and exactly what we were planning it happened the way we want it to.

I think we must also consider that we are coming from a game where we lost 4-0. So, when we come here and be able to score three goals that means there's improvement.
