Gianluigi Donnarumma ready for challenge in 'best league in the world' at Man City

The 26-year-old Italian, who won the Champions League and his fourth Ligue 1 title with PSG last season, joined City for a reported 30 million euros on a five-year contract. He spent his first full day with his new club on Thursday after returning from international duty with Italy.

"It's a new chapter in my life and my career. Playing in the Premier League with Manchester City is a great emotion for me and I'm ready for this challenge," Donnarumma said. "I've always dreamt about playing in the Premier League. For a player, achieving in the Premier League is the maximum for his career, so I'm really happy to be here."

The move came after PSG coach Luis Enrique made it clear Donnarumma was no longer his first-choice goalkeeper, opening the door for City to swoop in.

Donnarumma could make his debut this Sunday in the high-profile Manchester derby against United at the Etihad Stadium.

"I'm willing to take to the pitch for this club, who has been trying so much to sign me, and I hope I can pay that trust back," he added.

Donnarumma also spoke highly of Pep Guardiola, praising the manager's impressive track record.

"I think his history speaks for itself. The fact that he wanted me here is a reason to be proud of. It's an indescribable emotion," he said. "Being coached by him is the best for a football player. I can't wait to follow him and take to the pitch with him."

City are aiming to return to the top of English football after finishing third last season, ending their run of four consecutive Premier League titles. Donnarumma acknowledged the challenge ahead but believes the club is set up for success.

"Lifting the Champions League trophy with City would be a dream for me. Together with the coach and staff, I am convinced we will go far. But now we have to work humbly and think game by game," he said.

With the arrival of James Trafford and the departure of Ederson, the goalkeeping spot at City looks highly competitive.

"I'm happy because competition is good for everyone. We have to be a strong and united group," Donnarumma said. "Together we can make great success."

Having toured the Etihad Stadium and training facilities, Donnarumma praised the club's environment.

"It's a club that has always fascinated me. I've always followed City with pleasure. The training centre and stadium are fantastic," he said. "You can't tell what the club values are until you see it with your own eyes. The buildings and staff here are fantastic. I'm proud to be here and happy about the choice I made. I hope to make history and win as many trophies as possible."
