FNB Stadium braces for 60 000 fans as Pirates host Sundowns in a top-of-the-table clash

Stadium Management South Africa CEO Bertie Grobbelaar has revealed that they have sold 31,000 tickets so far for Wednesday’s Betway Premiership top of the table clash against Mamelodi Sundowns at FNB Stadium on Wednesday evening.

This fixture has previously been played at the Orlando Amstel Arena.

Speaking to the media at the Pirates briefing at Rand Stadium today, Grobbelaar says they are expecting approximately 60 000 people for this game. 

"Just before we came down to sit, 31 000 tickets were sold. So, it's not strange for the Pirates fixtures over the last couple of months,” Grobblelaar said. 

“There's not a lot sold in the days leading up but two days before the event and I think the fixtures over the weekend, people focused and concentrated on that. So we expect at least a crowd of 60 000 at least."

Good news for the Pirates season ticket holders at the Orlando Amstel Arena is that they will be able to access this game.

Grobbelaar explained how they will be able to enter the match venue on the day.

"Because this is an Orlando Pirates home fixture although it's played at FNB Stadium, the club's alternative venue, the season tickets will be valid and you'll be able to utilise your season tickets,” he added.

“Through the course of today and tomorrow, all season ticket holders will receive a call from the ticketing agent and your tickets will be transferred to you and they will assist you to create your profile and you will get your tickets. 

“There's dedicated access for season ticket holders and that's why gate C at the venue, where it will be smooth and easy for them to access. So, please use your season tickets that you purchased for the season."
