FA Cup quarter-final draw: Man City to host Liverpool

Manchester City will host Liverpool in the standout tie of the FA Cup quarter-finals after the draw for the last eight was made on Monday.

The clash between the Premier League heavyweights headlines a round that also sees Arsenal travel to Championship side Southampton, Chelsea host League One strugglers Port Vale and West Ham United welcome Leeds United.

The ties are scheduled to take place across the weekend of April 4 and 5.

City's meeting with Liverpool promises to be the most eye-catching fixture of the round as Pep Guardiola's side continue their pursuit of silverware on multiple fronts. The seven-time FA Cup winners reached the quarter-finals after defeating Newcastle United in the previous round and now face a Liverpool side that progressed with a 3-1 win over Wolves.

It will be the clubs' first FA Cup meeting since their dramatic 2022 semi-final, which Liverpool won 3-2. City, who last lifted the trophy in 2023, have already beaten their rivals twice this season, winning 3-0 at home in November before claiming a 2-1 victory at Anfield in February.

Premier League leaders Arsenal will be confident of continuing their run when they travel to Southampton. Mikel Arteta's team advanced with a 2-1 victory over League One side Mansfield, while the Saints booked their place in the last eight with a surprise 1-0 win at Fulham thanks to an injury-time penalty from Ross Stewart.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have been handed a home tie against the lowest-ranked side remaining in the competition. Port Vale produced one of the shocks of the fifth round by beating Premier League outfit Sunderland 1-0 to reach the quarter-finals for the first time since 1954.

The League One side, who are currently eight points adrift at the bottom of their division, now face an even tougher challenge against the Club World Cup champions. It will also be their first competitive meeting with Chelsea since 1929.

Chelsea themselves had to survive a scare to reach this stage, coming from behind twice to defeat 10-man Wrexham 4-2 after extra time in the previous round.

The remaining quarter-final will see West Ham United host Leeds United. The Hammers secured their place after edging past Brentford 5-3 on penalties following a 2-2 draw on Monday night, while Leeds progressed with a convincing 3-0 win over Norwich City.
