Ethan Brooks jets off to America in search of fresh start

SABC Sport can reveal that midfielder Ethan Brooks is set to fly abroad tonight to hold talks with a USL Championship side.

Brooks surprisingly cut ties with AmaZulu at the end of last season despite featuring in 25 matches from all competitions, which had been a clear indicator the player was an integral part of coach Arthur Zwane’s plans.

However, following discussions over a potential new deal and the two parties not agreeing terms Brooks agreed to walk away.

The public broadcaster has now been informed that the 23-year-old has been invited for discussions with Lexington SC in the USL Championship, the second tier of the United States league system.

It’s understood a flight to America has been scheduled for tonight with the former TS Galaxy star ready to turn over a new lease on life.

Brooks was part of the Usuthu team that pushed for a top eight position and had enjoyed arguably his best season since joining the Durban-based outfit exactly three years ago for an undisclosed fee.

It’s not clear whether the player received any enquiries from local clubs in the Betway Premiership prior to the decision to try lock in an overseas move, but it’s believed it has been Brooks’ dream to pursue interest abroad.

If all goes well then Brooks should be penning a new deal in the USL Championship.
