The Three Lions were on the brink of elimination before Kane struck twice to complete a memorable comeback and set up a clash against hosts Mexico at the iconic Azteca Stadium on Sunday.
He praised England’s resilience and determination, suggesting the display was their best of the tournament so far under coach Thomas Tuchel as belief continues to grow within the squad.
"I'm proud of the boy. We spoke before the game about how difficult this game would be - they are a good team that defends the box very well and look dangerous on the counter attack. Their keeper made some incredible saves and then you start to think it might be one of those days, but the boys kept fighting."
The Bayern Munich forward is now just one goal behind Kylian Mbappe and Lionel Messi after scoring five times – and Kane was asked about being an inspiration.
"I remember as a kid watching England at the World Cup and I always dreamed of being here someday. I hope everyone back home enjoys the celebrations because they deserve it."
Kane also gave credit to DR Congo for a solid game plan but was relieved that England managed to find a way to win the tie.
The dream for the Three Lions to win the World Cup lives on.
The skipper didn’t want to immediately focus on the round of 16 clash against Mexico, although he did point out it could be their toughest test yet at the World Cup.
