Elizabeth de Koker impressed with Sundowns’ start to 2025 Champions League regional campaign

Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies head of delegation Elizabeth de Koker is impressed with the team’s opening performance in the 2025 CAF Champions League COSAFA qualifiers.

Sundowns resumed their regional campaign in high spirits managing to secure a 3 - 0 victory over Malawi’s Ntopwa to top Group A with 3 points.

Speaking to SABC Sport, De Koker believes this year’s edition will be a lot more competitive and states that Sundowns will have to maintain their winning momentum to remain at the top.

“As for day one. I'm proud of the team's performance, ours is just to build momentum. Bearing in mind that all the 10 teams in this tournament are the best in their own country, it was indeed a strong, impressive start for us and the players gave it their all,’’ said De Koker.

De Koker has led Sundowns as head of delegation since 2021 being part of the team’s success in clinching two regional titles. She explains what her role entails.

“I'm happy to be appointed as the Head of Delegation for Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies again. As head of Delegation my role is to lead and give guidance in the right direction and also to be part of the team's mission to succeed in this tournament,’’ added De Koker.

The championship is currently under way until 31 August at UJ AW Muller Stadium in Johannesburg. The seasoned football administrator from Mofutsanyana region has edged South African football supporters to come out in numbers to witness the talent COSAFA has to offer.

“We need that energy boost from the crowd, our football is getting interesting, you see quality players. I'd like to invite all football fans to come out to support Masandawana. Let's pack the stadium and show support for Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies. And also show love to Africa talent,’’ she expressed.
