Ederson concedes he was 'unhappy' at Man City

Brazilian goalkeeper Ederson says his move to Fenerbahce has revived his passion for football after admitting to being 'unhappy' at Manchester City in his last year with the Premier League giants.

The 32-year-old left the Citizens in September, ending an eight-year spell that brought 18 trophies, including six league titles and a Champions League crown.

Ederson revealed that he had already tried to leave City the previous season. That failed attempt, combined with five separate injuries, left him unhappy and below his usual standards.

"I wasn't at my highest level," he said while on Brazil duty. "There's no point being at a giant winning club if you're not happy. It would have kept affecting me."

The desire for change grew strong enough that he discussed a move with both his family and the club long before his final season ended.

Once Fenerbahce made their offer, Ederson felt it was the right moment to reset. He says the atmosphere in Turkey has brought back the joy that was fading in England.

"With this change, I'm breathing football again," he said. "I'm very happy with this new challenge and eager to win."

He now hopes to help Fenerbahce end their title drought, with the club having last won the Turkish league in 2014.

Despite wanting to leave, Ederson spoke warmly about Pep Guardiola, calling him "the best coach of all time." The two exchanged messages even after the transfer, and Ederson said it was a pleasure to work under him.

Back in Brazil's squad after injury absences, Ederson aims to secure a place at the 2026 World Cup. "My expectations are high," he said, though he admits no player is guaranteed a spot.
