Dr Pupuma targets more home success for ambitious Milford

Milford FC chairman and coach Xanti Pupuma believes his side can take plenty of positives from their goalless draw against Chippa United at Buffalo City Stadium in East London.

The Stallions have made an encouraging start to their maiden Betway Premiership campaign, collecting eight points from their opening six matches. They have beaten Siwelele FC and fellow newcomers Kruger United at home, while their only defeats have come against reigning champions Orlando Pirates and African champions Mamelodi Sundowns.

Pupuma admits he had to manage his squad carefully after travelling to Sundowns in midweek before making the trip to East London.

"Being the away team, we will take the point. I think towards the end we did feel as if we could have made better decisions and probably stolen it. I think overall we will take a point; we just played on Wednesday against the African champions, and we had to rotate a little bit to accommodate that," said Pupuma.

"And then travel from Pretoria to East London, so I'm not disappointed with the point. We have 8 points after six games; we are definitely happy with that."

Milford will now return to KwaZulu-Natal with only home fixtures scheduled for the next two months.

Pupuma says the focus will be on taking the campaign one match at a time, while making the most of their home advantage.

Cebolenkosi Mthethwa was named Man of the Match after Milford’s stalemate with Chippa United, earning a warm embrace from Pupuma at the final whistle.

The box-to-box midfielder has already caught the eye with his energy, decision-making and ability to contribute at both ends of the pitch.

Pupuma believes Mthethwa’s development is one South African football followers should keep a close eye on.

With the transfer window still open, Milford could yet strengthen their squad before the deadline. However, Pupuma remains confident in the group that secured promotion and has helped the club make a positive start to their first Betway Premiership campaign.
