Chelsea turn to Filip Jorgensen as Robert Sanchez sits out Carabao Cup tie

Chelsea are set to hand Filip Jorgensen another chance in goal as they face Lincoln City in the Carabao Cup third round tonight, with coach Enzo Maresca insisting the young Dane is ready to step up.

The Blues travel to the LNER Stadium without first-choice goalkeeper Robert Sanchez, who is suspended after his red card in the 2-1 Premier League defeat against Manchester United on Saturday.

Sanchez was dismissed just four minutes into the match following a collision with Bryan Mbeumo and later apologised both in the dressing room and publicly on social media.

The Spaniard has been a key figure for Chelsea this season, keeping multiple clean sheets and collecting the Golden Glove after the FIFA Club World Cup victory in the summer. Maresca praised Sanchez for his honesty in accepting responsibility for the error at Old Trafford.

"Rob for a long time has been very good," Maresca said. "Unfortunately, he made a mistake the other day and he recognised it. He is an intelligent person. He apologised in the changing room and he did the same in public.

"Filip is going to help us in the moments we need him."

Jorgensen, who joined Chelsea from Villarreal in the summer, is expected to start against Lincoln, who have lost just once in all competitions so far this season.

The 22-year-old has featured in training sessions regularly with the first team and Maresca has said he is confident in his ability to perform under pressure.

The Blues are also monitoring the fitness of several senior players ahead of the trip, with Maresca expected to rotate his squad.
