Chelsea captain Reece James begins road to recovery after knee surgery

Chelsea captain Reece James has undergone successful knee surgery and begun his rehabilitation, the Premier League club confirmed on Friday.

The 26-year-old England international has missed Chelsea's last two league matches after suffering an injury during training.

James was absent from the 5-1 victory over Bournemouth last Saturday as medical assessments were carried out to determine the extent of the problem. The examinations confirmed that surgery was necessary.

"Reece has already begun his road to recovery and will be supported by the club's medical department at Cobham during this rehabilitation phase," Chelsea said in a statement.

The injury is another setback for James, who has previously struggled with fitness problems during his Chelsea career. The club has not provided a timeline for his return to action.

Chelsea head into Saturday's Premier League trip to Everton sitting sixth in the table. They will be hoping to maintain their progress despite being without their captain.
