Chalobah wants Chelsea players to take accountability after Brighton defeat

Chelsea defender Trevor Chalobah believes the squad must be held accountable for a disappointing performance in the 3-0 loss against Brighton and Hove Albion on Tuesday.

The Blues were dealt a huge blow in their ambitions of qualifying for next season's UEFA Champions League following the heavy defeat at the Amex Stadium, condemning them to a fifth consecutive loss in the Premier League.

The bad run of form has seen the Seagulls overtake Chelsea to lie in sixth spot on the table, with Liam Rosenior's side now seven points behind fifth placed Liverpool.

"We're in a difficult moment, but we can't use that as an excuse," said Chalobah after the match.

"We all play for one of the biggest clubs in the world, so we have to look at ourselves. You can say tactics, you can say this [or that], but we just have to take responsibility.

"As players, we have to be accountable for our performance. We know how much the fans have been behind us, and we know they are disappointed at the moment with the results."

The Londoners now turn their attention to their upcoming FA Cup semi-final clash against Leeds United at Wembley Stadium on Sunday as they try to salvage some silverware following their Club World Cup success.

"We have to stick together. You can't dwell on the past; it's not going to change anything," added the 26-year-old England international.

"You have to stay positive. You have to pick yourself up with another semi-final to come - it's a massive game at Wembley. We have to use that as a positive, and we have to approach the game with a strong mentality and try to pick ourselves up from this defeat."

The Blues will be targeting their first FA Cup final since the 2022 loss to Liverpool on penalties following a stalemate, having previously won the competition eight times.
