Cedric Kaze backs Chiefs signing Adolf Bitegeko to shine

Kaze, now head coach of Sekhukhune United, came up against the Tanzania international during his time as Nasreddine Nabi's assistant at Yanga SC, when Bitegeko played for rivals Azam FC.

Chiefs confirmed the signing of the 27-year-old defensive midfielder on Tuesday, making him their third arrival ahead of the 2026/27 season after defender Thabo Moloisane and goalkeeper Renaldo Learner.

"I do know him. I played against him a couple of times when I was at Yanga against Azam. He's a good player, technically gifted and very intelligent. He hasn't played a lot lately because of injuries, but when he's healthy, he can be good for the team," Kaze told Sports Night Amplified with Andile Ncube.

Chiefs continue to reshape their squad under new coach Fernando da Cruz, who returns to Naturena after a brief spell as one of Nabi's assistants two years ago before leaving to join the Moroccan Football Federation.

Whether Da Cruz played a role in Bitegeko's recruitment remains unclear, particularly given the midfielder's recent injury record and limited game time.

Asked if the Tanzanian defensive midfielder would adapt quickly to the demands of the Betway Premiership, Kaze was cautious.

"It all depends. When he's at his best, he's a good player who can help the team. He's also a very, very good kid," he added.
