Brighton boss backs Man Utd's Benjamin Sesko to level up after Ruben Amorim exit

Brighton head coach Fabian Hurzeler is convinced that Manchester United striker Benjamin Sesko will become an important player for the club.

Hurzeler's comments come in the aftermath of Ruben Amorim's dismissal as United manager. Amorim was sacked last Monday following a breakdown in his relationship with the club's hierarchy, leaving the Red Devils still adjusting to his sudden departure.

Darren Fletcher has stepped into the role on an interim basis and will remain in the dugout for the time being, having overseen a credible 2-2 draw away to Burnley at Turf Moor during the week.

Manchester United are understood to be in discussions over a short-term managerial appointment until the end of the season, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Michael Carrick both under consideration to return in an interim capacity.

Despite the off-field uncertainty, United produced an encouraging performance against Burnley, led by a standout display from Sesko.

The 22-year-old Slovenian scored twice in a blistering 10-minute spell, with the brace equalling his total goal return from his previous 17 appearances for the club.

Sesko joined United from RB Leipzig last summer in a 74-million-pound deal but has endured a difficult start marked by inconsistent form and fitness issues. However, Hurzeler believes the forward has all the attributes required to develop into a top Premier League striker.

"I followed him [when I was coaching in Germany]. I think he can be a big player for United," Hurzeler said in his pre-match press conference on Friday.

"He has everything that a good striker needs. He's physically very strong, fast, scores with his head. He is technical, finds good solutions in tight spaces. I like him as a player.

"He didn't have an easy start but against Burnley he was impressive. So we definitely have to take care of him. But not only him, they also have other really good players, especially the offensive players.

"I know they're still missing some players because of AFCON but they still have the quality to hurt every opponent in the league. So not only Sesko, they have a lot of players who can make the difference, so we need to prepare for all of them."

Manchester United will face Brighton in the FA Cup third-round on Sunday.
