Thembinkosi Lorchs Agent Steve Kapeluschnik confirms Sundowns Exit

SABC Sport can confirm that Mamelodi Sundowns have agreed a permanent transfer deal with Wydad Casablanca for Thembinkosi Lorch.

The move had been widely speculated following the 32-year-old’s impressive loan spell in Morocco, where he featured in the Botola Pro League from January this year and later at the FIFA Club World Cup.

With the short-term loan expiring, Wydad took time to finalise a buyout, but sources have told the public broadcaster that an agreement has now been reached, clearing the way for Lorch to return to North Africa and join The Red Castle.

Lorch signed for Sundowns in January 2024 to reunite with then-coach Rulani Mokwena, before linking up with him again at Wydad earlier this year.

Despite Mokwena’s departure from the Moroccan giants, Lorch remained a fan favourite with several standout performances.

The Bafana Bafana international played in all of Wydad’s Club World Cup fixtures in the USA, including clashes against Manchester City, Juventus and Al Ain, scoring one goal during the tournament.

When contacted for comment, his agent Steve Kapeluschnik confirmed the move was imminent, but nothing more.

“Yes, it is true that there is an imminent move for Lorch to start another chapter in his career. But given the confidentiality of these matters, I cannot reveal where he is going – that is for the clubs to announce,” Kapeluschnik told SABC Sport
