Breaking: Kaizer Chiefs and Austin Dube to part ways

Kaizer Chiefs will part ways with defender Austin Dube following an agreement to settle the remainder of his contract, SABC Sport can reveal.

The public broadcaster previously reported the centre back was in talks with the Glamour Boys over leaving the club along with midfielder Cole Alexander, who has since agreed to the payout.

Dube joined the Soweto giants from Richards Bay in July 2021 at the same time coach Stuart Baxter returned to Naturena.

However, his fortunes turned soon after Chiefs sacked Baxter with seven DStv Premiership games left and Arthur Zwane taking over in the interim and subsequently appointed permanently at the end of the campaign.

With Zwane in charge, Dube has seen little to no game time – only managing just one appearance since April last year.

The writing was on the wall, but given the player still had a year left on his initial contract Chiefs offered a settlement which had to be negotiated before Dube could put pen to paper to leave.

SABC Sport sources have confirmed an agreement has been reached and Amakhosi will soon announce Dube’s departure.

Dube is expected to return to his old club Richards Bay, who just last week appointed Kaitano Tembo as their head coach.

Contacted for comment, the player’s agent was stingy with the details.

“It’s a work in progress. Please afford me the opportunity to conclude this and I will revert [back].

I can comfortably tell you that even as this process has ended we will have a club soon, there has been some positive receptions to his availability and I am looking forward to him playing regularly again,” said Basia Michaels.
