Borussia Dortmund sign playmaker Giannis Konstantelias from PAOK

Borussia Dortmund have completed the signing of Greek attacking midfielder Giannis Konstantelias from PAOK, with the 23-year-old committing his future to the Bundesliga club on a long-term contract.

Konstantelias, who completed his medical in Germany on Sunday, arrives at Dortmund after establishing himself as one of the most promising attacking players in Greek football. The transfer is worth an initial 26 million euros, with a further 6 million euros available in bonuses, while PAOK have also retained a sell-on clause.

Dortmund sporting director Lars Ricken said the club had followed Konstantelias' progress for some time and believes the youngster can make an immediate contribution while continuing to develop.

"We are delighted to have secured the services of Giannis, a talented attacking player whose development we have been following for some time," Ricken said. "At 23, he is still a relatively young player, but one who already brings a wealth of experience."

Konstantelias spent his entire senior club career with PAOK after coming through the club's academy. He made his first-team debut as a 17-year-old in January 2021 and went on to record 44 goals and 26 assists in 190 appearances.

He helped PAOK win the Greek Cup in 2021 before playing a key role in their 2023/24 league title success. His performances continued to attract attention last season, when he scored eight goals and supplied two assists in 24 Super League appearances.

The midfielder had also made a fast start to the new campaign, scoring three times in four Europa League play-off appearances, although PAOK were eliminated 4-2 on aggregate by Anderlecht.

Dortmund have moved quickly to secure his services after reviving their interest in the player, while Konstantelias will now become the latest Greek talent to join the club following compatriot Konstantinos Karetsas.

At international level, Konstantelias represented Greece through the youth ranks before making his senior debut in March 2023. He has since scored four goals in 18 appearances for the national team.

The midfielder expressed his excitement at beginning the next stage of his career in Germany.

"I am very happy to be playing for Borussia Dortmund in the future," Konstantelias said. "BVB is a great club and I will give everything to be successful here."

Konstantelias' departure brings an end to a significant chapter at PAOK, who celebrated his contribution with a farewell video describing him as their "little wizard".

Dortmund will hope their new signing can make an early impact, with the club opening their 2026/27 campaign against Bayern Munich in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup on August 22 before facing Hamburg in their Bundesliga opener a week later.
