The 25-year-old's renewal comes amid growing Premier League interest, with Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham, and Manchester United all reportedly monitoring his situation.
Nmecha, who joined Dortmund in the summer of 2023 from Wolfsburg for a reported 30 million euros, has become a central figure in Niko Kovac's side. Having developed in the Manchester City academy, the midfielder has made 108 appearances for Dortmund across all competitions, scoring 13 goals. He has also earned six caps for Germany, finding the net once.
"I've had many great experiences with this club and its fans over the past few years and am very grateful for the club's trust," Nmecha said. "I want to repay that trust by giving my best for Borussia Dortmund."
Dortmund's sporting director, Sebastian Kehl, praised the midfielder's influence on the team. "Felix has become a very important part of our squad. He always finds creative solutions, even under pressure. He brings incredible quality to the pitch - both for us and for the German national team. We are convinced that his development curve will continue to rise."
Manager Kovac echoed those sentiments, describing Nmecha as the team's "metronome in midfield" and highlighting his leadership and tactical maturity. "He directs and leads our game. We need him. I am happy that he is developing so well," Kovac said.
The contract extension, which adds two years to his previous deal, also includes improved terms that are expected to place Nmecha among Dortmund's top earners. Managing director Lars Ricken emphasized that the move reflects both the player's importance to the club and the strategic vision for the squad. "He identifies completely with Borussia Dortmund and is a key component of our planning. His contract extension signals continuity and underlines our conviction that we will be successful together in the coming years," Ricken said.
Nmecha has already made a significant impact in the 2025/26 season, scoring five goals across competitions and helping Dortmund reach the Champions League knockout play-offs, where they were narrowly eliminated by Atalanta. In the Bundesliga, he remains pivotal as Dortmund push for a top-four finish, with a crucial home match against Augsburg approaching.
By securing Nmecha through his peak years, Dortmund have not only fended off potential suitors but also ensured that the player remains the centerpiece of their midfield strategy. His presence guarantees stability for both club and country as he prepares for upcoming international challenges, including the World Cup.
