Orbit College power past Magesi in fiery Rustenburg clash
Orbit College produced a dominant first-half display to defeat Magesi FC 3-1 in their Betway Premiership encounter at Olympia Park in Rustenburg on Saturday.
Pogiso Makhoye's side were ruthless in front of goal, taking control before the break and holding firm despite a second-half red card. The result lifted Orbit to 11th in the table on 13 points after 11 matches, while John Maduka's Magesi remain 15th on nine points.
The hosts opened the scoring just before half-time when Monnapule Saleng calmly converted from the penalty spot after Tshepo Makgoga brought down an Orbit attacker inside the box.
Orbit doubled their advantage early in the second half through Thuso Moleleki, who finished off a quick counter-attack with a composed strike. Mbulelo Wagaba added a third on 61 minutes, curling a fine effort past the Magesi goalkeeper to put the game seemingly beyond reach.
However, the momentum shifted shortly after Katlego Mkhabela was shown a red card for violent conduct, reducing Orbit to ten men. Magesi finally capitalised when Edmore Chirambadare pulled one back with a well-struck left-footed effort from distance in the 70th minute.
Despite pressing for more, Magesi's hopes faded when Lehlohonolo Mtshali was sent off late on, leaving both sides to finish with ten players.
Orbit's solid defensive performance and sharp counter-attacks secured a vital home win, ending a frustrating run of results. Magesi, meanwhile, will rue their missed first-half chances as they continue to battle near the foot of the table.
Richards Bay claw back to claim draw against Polokwane City
A late penalty for the Natal Rich Boys helped them secure a point away from home against Polokwane City after a 1-1 draw at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday.
Rise And Shine were the first to threaten to score with Manuel Kambala and Thabang Matuludi coming close to troubling the goalkeeper Brian Bwire in the first twenty minutes.
Knox Mutizwa drew the first save of the match in the 27th minute before Thabang Matuludi immediately struck the post with a right footed effort.
City took the lead in the 31st minute through Mokibelo Ramabu's shot from outside the box but both sides failed to create clear chances for the rest of the first half.
Both teams failed to hit the target until the 86th minute when Mpho Mvundlela conceded a penalty that was duly converted by Malawian striker Gabadinho Mhango to share the spoils in Limpopo.
AmaZulu make Chippa United pay for missed penalty
AmaZulu beat Chippa United 3-0 at the Buffalo City Stadium on Saturday evening to move up to move up to sixth on the Betway Premiership table.
Chippa United were granted the first opportunity to get on the scoresheet but goalkeeper Darren Johnson denied the home side with a good save to keep the score goalless.
A solitary first half strike by midfielder Hendrick Ekstein following good work on the flank by Nkosikhona Radebe was enough to separate the sides at half time.
The Durban based side then extended the lead through Athini Maqokola's first goal for the club in the 53rd minute to take a firm grip on the match.
Ekstein then added a third goal from the penalty spot in the 66th minute as things went from bad to worse for the struggling United.
The defeat extends the Chilli Boys winless streak to five matches and firmly rooted at the bottom of the table.
